Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, has said governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are united in their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Uzodimma said the responsibility for securing victory for the ruling party at the grassroots level ultimately rests with governors across the states.
The Imo governor spoke on Thursday after a meeting between President Tinubu and APC governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, shortly after the 160th National Economic Council meeting.
The State House released details of the briefing on Friday.
Governance and Politics Top Agenda
Speaking on behalf of the governors, Uzodimma said the meeting focused on two major issues: governance and politics, with governance taking up most of the discussions.
According to him, the governors and the President discussed measures aimed at reducing the cost of living and improving the welfare of Nigerians.
“We spoke basically on two issues: one, politics, and the other, governance,” Uzodimma said.
He explained that discussions on governance centred on reducing transportation costs, strengthening food security, improving agriculture and ensuring that the benefits of government reforms reach ordinary Nigerians.
“Governance, which took most of the time, is about how to reduce the cost of living in Nigeria, the cost of transportation, food security, agriculture, bringing prosperity to the people, ensuring that the dividends of the various reforms we have gotten over the years trickle down to the people, so the people can feel it,” he said.
APC Governors Back Tinubu
Uzodimma said the APC governors remained unanimous in their support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
He stressed that governors would play a crucial role in mobilising support for the President across their respective states as the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections.
The meeting comes as the APC intensifies preparations for the next general elections while the opposition also works to strengthen its political structures ahead of 2027.
