The United Arab Emirates has announced a free Private Teacher Work Permit for qualified individuals who want to legally provide private tutoring services to students in the country.
The permit, issued by the UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, is designed to regulate private tutoring and provide students and parents with access to qualified educators.
According to the UAE government, the permit is free of charge and valid for two years. It allows approved tutors to provide private lessons, including online and face-to-face tutoring, in accordance with the applicable rules.
Who Can Apply?
The scheme is open to several categories of eligible individuals, including qualified teachers and certain employees and students who meet the required conditions.
Teachers registered with government or private schools in the UAE can apply, while other eligible applicants must provide the required documentation and approvals.
For students, the current MoHRE requirements state that school students must generally be between 15 and 18 years old, hold a valid UAE residence visa if they are non-UAE nationals, and meet the relevant documentation requirements.
Key Requirements
Applicants may be required to provide documents such as:
- A valid UAE residence permit and Emirates ID
- A certificate of good conduct
- A medical fitness certificate
- Proof of qualifications or teaching experience, where applicable
- A No Objection Certificate from an existing employer for eligible employees
- Proof of student status and parental consent for eligible student applicants
- Other documents required by MoHRE and the Ministry of Education
Requirements can vary depending on the applicant’s category.
How to Apply
Eligible applicants can submit applications through the MoHRE smart application, website or electronic services platform. The official UAE government portal also lists the Private Teacher Work Permit as a free permit for qualified professionals.
The official MoHRE service indicates that the permit has a two-year validity period, with the service designed to be completed electronically.
Important Warning for Teachers
Individuals should not provide private tutoring services without the required authorisation. The permit is intended to ensure that private lessons are provided legally and by people who meet the UAE’s educational and professional requirements.
For anyone considering teaching privately in the UAE, it is important to check the latest requirements directly through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation before applying, as eligibility and documentation requirements may depend on the applicant’s circumstances.
The initiative could provide a useful legal pathway for qualified educators to earn additional income while giving students greater access to regulated private tutoring services.
