Political activities are gathering momentum in Sokoto State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, with reports indicating that as many as 19 candidates are preparing to contest the seat.
The emerging contest is expected to provide voters with a wide range of choices as different political parties seek to challenge the ruling party and secure control of the state.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, who is the incumbent, is set to defend the APC’s position in the election, while opposition parties are also preparing their own campaigns.
Among the parties with candidates in the contest are the PDP, ADC, Labour Party, AAC, NNPP, SDP, Accord and YPP, alongside other political platforms.
The number of candidates could make the election particularly interesting, as votes may be divided among several parties and candidates. Much will depend on the ability of each political organisation to mobilise supporters and establish a strong presence at the grassroots.
