The Presidency has explained why President Bola Tinubu left Abuja for a three-week vacation in Europe, saying the break is intended to give the President an opportunity to rest after months of demanding official duties.
Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare, gave the explanation while speaking with journalists on Sunday.
Dare said Tinubu had spent the previous six to seven months heavily involved in matters of national governance, including major decisions concerning Nigeria’s economy and security.
According to the presidential aide, the President’s schedule had been particularly demanding as his administration continued implementing policies and responding to challenges across different sectors.
Dare said the timing of the vacation was also important because the country is entering a period of increased political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He explained that the coming months would involve an intensive campaign season while government business would continue simultaneously.
The presidential aide said the vacation would therefore provide Tinubu with time to recharge before facing what is expected to be another demanding period of political and governmental activities.
He also clarified that being outside the country would not mean the President had completely disengaged from official responsibilities.
Tinubu reportedly began his annual leave on Sunday and is expected to spend about three weeks in Europe.
The Presidency said the holiday should be viewed as part of the President’s need to rest and prepare for the months ahead rather than as a withdrawal from governance.
