The Nigerian Armed Forces have recorded another major success in the fight against terrorism after a precision airstrike reportedly eliminated more than 20 suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.
According to military sources, the operation was conducted under Operation Hadin Kai after credible intelligence revealed that the terrorists had gathered at a remote location to plan coordinated attacks on military formations and civilian communities.
The targeted airstrike successfully hit the insurgents’ hideout, destroying key logistics, equipment, and operational facilities used by the terrorist group. Military intelligence and aerial surveillance had confirmed the presence of the fighters before the operation was approved, ensuring the strike was carried out with precision.
Security officials said the operation is believed to have neutralized several senior ISWAP operatives while significantly disrupting the group’s ability to launch further attacks. Troops have since commenced follow-up clearance operations in the affected area to assess the full extent of the damage and prevent any surviving insurgents from regrouping.
The latest offensive forms part of the Nigerian military’s sustained campaign to dismantle terrorist networks operating across the North-East. Despite years of military pressure, both ISWAP and Boko Haram have continued to carry out attacks on security personnel and civilian communities in parts of Borno and neighbouring states.
Military analysts believe that improved intelligence gathering, surveillance, and precision air operations have increasingly restricted the movements of terrorist groups, forcing them to abandon several strongholds and disrupting their supply routes.
The Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorist groups until lasting peace and stability are restored across the region. Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to the success of ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
The latest military success underscores the determination of the Nigerian Armed Forces to eliminate terrorist hideouts, strengthen security across Borno State and the wider Lake Chad region, and protect the lives and property of innocent civilians.
