The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has raised fresh concerns over the security situation in the state following an attack by suspected bandits.
The party said the incident exposed possible weaknesses in the state’s security system.
APC Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, raised the concerns in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the APC, suspected bandits attacked an Operation Burst security base along the Igbeti-Igboho road in the early hours of Sunday.
The attackers reportedly stole some items from the facility. A generator and a motorcycle were among the properties said to have been taken away.
The APC said the incident should prompt authorities to review security arrangements in the affected area.
The party also questioned the effectiveness of the surveillance aircraft acquired by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde.
Sadare said the aircraft should be useful in monitoring areas that are vulnerable to criminal attacks.
He added that aerial surveillance could help security agencies detect suspicious movements and respond to threats before they escalate.
The APC spokesman also questioned how the suspected attackers were able to operate at the security base without being detected.
He argued that effective surveillance could have helped security personnel track the attackers and support a quicker response.
The party therefore called for stronger security measures across Oyo State, particularly in areas considered vulnerable to attacks.
APC Criticises Makinde Over Tinubu’s Economic Policies
The APC also used the opportunity to criticise Governor Seyi Makinde over his comments on the economic policies of President Bola Tinubu.
Sadare described Makinde’s criticism of the Federal Government’s economic reforms as evidence of what the APC considered poor understanding of economic management.
The party maintained that the latest security incident should not be ignored.
It urged the relevant authorities to strengthen security operations and ensure that available surveillance resources are effectively deployed.
The APC also called for greater accountability over the use of the surveillance aircraft.
According to the party, the equipment should assist security agencies in protecting residents and monitoring areas facing security threats.
