Nigerian content creator Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, has captured widespread attention after his unexpected reaction during his statutory wedding to his partner, Amadou Elizabeth Aminata, affectionately called Jarvis.
Reports indicate that the couple officially tied the knot in a court ceremony on Wednesday.
A video from the event showcased the marriage registrar outlining the legal obligations that accompany their union. The registrar warned the couple that entering into another marriage while the current one remains valid constitutes bigamy, a serious offense that carries a minimum prison sentence of five years without the possibility of a fine.
Following this stern warning, the registrar inquired if they wished to proceed with the ceremony.
Peller, taken aback, questioned the registrar’s warning, expressing disbelief that a union founded on love could be associated with a prison sentence.
“Marriage is about love. What does love have to do with imprisonment?” he exclaimed, prompting laughter and various reactions from the attendees.
Peller’s response has sparked conversations about the contrast between the legalities of marriage and its emotional essence.
