The African Action Congress (AAC) has rejected reports linking the party to talks aimed at producing a single opposition candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore said the party has no agreement to participate in the initiative.
He also said the party has no plans to join the proposed coalition.
Party Says Its Position Is Clear
Sowore addressed the issue in a statement posted on his verified X account.
His response followed reports about a political commission led by Professor Pat Utomi.
The commission is exploring discussions among opposition presidential candidates and their party leaders.
One of its objectives is reportedly to find a common presidential candidate for 2027.
Sowore said the AAC should not be counted among the participants.
Why AAC Is Staying Away
According to Sowore, the AAC’s political programme is fundamentally different from that of the proposed alliance.
He said the party is pursuing a programme based on social and economic justice.
The party also advocates equal rights and accountable government, according to Sowore.
He added that the AAC wants greater political and economic power placed in the hands of Nigerians.
‘We Will Not Abandon Our Programme’
Sowore said the party would not sacrifice its programme for political convenience.
He argued that forming a coalition simply to replace one group of established politicians with another would not address the issues the AAC seeks to change.
“We will not abandon that programme for an arrangement whose principal objective is simply to replace one set of establishment politicians with another.”
Criticism of the Political Establishment
The AAC candidate also questioned the credentials of politicians who now present themselves as an alternative to the current political order.
He said many of them have, at different times, operated within major political parties.
He specifically referred to the APC, PDP and Labour Party.
Sowore said the AAC has consistently opposed that political establishment.

The proposed coalition talks are expected to involve several opposition figures.
However, Sowore’s latest statement makes clear that the AAC does not intend to participate, based on the information provided.
The party will instead continue to promote its own political programme as the 2027 election approaches.
