The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured all 17 chairmanship positions in the Yobe State local government elections conducted on September 26, 2026.
The Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YSIEC) announced the results on Sunday in Damaturu, the state capital, following the completion of voting, counting and collation.
The commission’s Executive Chairman, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Yabani, declared APC candidates winners of the chairmanship contests across the state’s 17 local government areas.
Yabani said the election was conducted across 178 electoral wards, with 10 political parties participating in the exercise.
According to him, councillorship results were announced at the ward level, while the chairmanship results were declared at the respective local government collation centres before the final results were presented by the commission.
APC Also Takes Majority of Councillorship Seats
The commission’s results showed that the APC also won 176 of the 178 councillorship positions contested across Yobe State.
The remaining two seats were won by the All Peoples Party (APP) in Fune and the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Karasuwa.
Yabani explained that the commission’s responsibility was to formally announce the results that had already been declared at the various collation centres.
“Our duty here is just to announce what was declared at the collation centres so that we can now declare who are the winners,” he said.
Election Held Across 17 LGAs
The local government election was held simultaneously across Yobe’s 17 local government areas.
The electoral commission had earlier announced that voting would take place across 178 wards, with election materials deployed ahead of the exercise.
The outcome leaves the APC with all the elected chairmanship positions in the state, while two opposition parties secured representation at the councillorship level.
The results were announced a day after voters went to the polls across Yobe State.
