Former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan met privately on Friday with leaders of the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN)-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his Abuja residence. This meeting is seen by political observers as a significant step in the consultations leading up to the 2027 general elections.

The delegation, led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), a former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, included senior members from his PDP faction. Although the complete list of attendees remains undisclosed, party insiders noted that this meeting is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the group’s position ahead of future elections.

The meeting follows the faction’s recent decision to endorse Jonathan as its preferred presidential candidate for 2027, despite his lack of a formal declaration to re-enter active politics. The faction remains confident in Jonathan’s ability to unify the opposition and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While specific details of Friday’s discussions remain under wraps, sources suggest that the talks focused on the faction’s political strategy, party cohesion, national issues, and 2027 election preparations.

Jonathan, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2010 to 2015, has consistently prioritized promoting peace, democracy, and good governance. He has neither accepted nor dismissed the faction’s calls for him to run for presidency, emphasizing the need for broad consultations before making such major political decisions.

Political analysts believe this meeting may heighten speculation regarding Jonathan’s potential return to the political scene in 2027, particularly as opposition parties engage in discussions and realignments to identify a consensus candidate.

At the time of this report, neither Jonathan nor Turaki spoke to the press following the meeting, and no official statement was released detailing the outcomes of their discussions.
