Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has expressed his disapproval of politicians who depend on influential godfathers, affluent sponsors, and established political parties to achieve their goals in the lead-up to the 2027 elections.
In a social media post, Sowore defended the AAC while emphasizing what he referred to as the party’s grassroots foundation.
He stated that the AAC was established through the contributions, sacrifices, and determination of ordinary Nigerians, rather than through the financial clout of wealthy political figures.
The former presidential candidate questioned the rationale behind politicians who, confident in their popularity, frequently switch between political parties as elections approach instead of creating and nurturing their own political platforms.
Sowore also condemned politicians who seek to persuade members and supporters of existing movements to leave those platforms and join other political organizations.
He challenged these politicians to prove the strength of their ideas by independently organizing Nigerians and constructing political structures that can garner public support.
“If their ideas are so compelling, let them organize. If their platforms are so popular, let them mobilize. If their politics is so powerful, let them build,” Sowore stated.
He asserted that the AAC embodies a political structure forged through the efforts of its members and supporters.
“We built ours with our sweat and blood. Let them build theirs,” he added.
Sowore’s remarks come as political activities and alignments are beginning to escalate in anticipation of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups already positioning themselves for the upcoming contest.
