Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has refuted claims that he is pursuing the role of Director-General for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
While dismissing the allegation, Wike reiterated his support for President Bola Tinubu’s pursuit of a second term. He emphasized that holding a position on the campaign council was not essential for him to aid in the President’s electoral success.
The reports had included the FCT minister among senior APC members and government officials who were either allegedly interested in or being considered for the top position within the campaign council.
However, Wike dismissed the reports as false.
In a statement released on Monday by Lere Olayinka, his Senior Special Assistant for Public Communications and Social Media, the minister clarified that he had not lobbied for the position nor engaged in any discussions with anyone about becoming a member or leader of the proposed campaign council.
Wike explained that he is currently abroad taking a break following an intense period of official duties in the FCT.
I’m currently outside Nigeria, taking some time to rest and relax after spending over 30 days commissioning projects, launching new ones, and inspecting ongoing developments—particularly those set for completion in December and January of next year.
Upon my return, we will concentrate on consistently fulfilling our mandate in alignment with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and aim to further boost his electoral success in Rivers State and the FCT.
“As a result, I don’t need to be the DG or even part of Mr. President’s political party’s Presidential Campaign Council to do my part in ensuring his decisive victory in Rivers State and the FCT,” the statement articulated.
