Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya has departed for Greece on a family holiday, marking what the presidency described as the country’s first officially announced annual leave by a sitting head of state.
Doumbouya left the capital, Conakry, on Monday and was seen off at the airport by Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah, senior military commanders, government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
According to the presidency, the trip comes after years of intensive leadership and reflects the administration’s commitment to transparency in governance.
Officials also assured citizens that government activities and state institutions would continue to function normally throughout the president’s absence.
Ahead of Doumbouya’s departure, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces issued a statement urging the public not to be misled by misinformation circulating online during the president’s trip.
The military further reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining national stability, protecting Guinea’s territorial integrity and ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of state institutions.
The statement also underscored the military’s central role in Guinea’s political landscape since September 2021, when special forces led by Doumbouya overthrew former President Alpha Condé in a military coup.
