Nigeria’s Super Falcons showcased an impressive attacking performance, defeating Egypt 6-2 and securing a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

As the defending champions, Nigeria entered this crucial Group C match knowing a win was necessary for advancement, following an initial loss but bouncing back with a victory over Zambia. They delivered one of the tournament’s most dominant displays.

The scoring opened in the 21st minute when Asisat Oshoala converted a penalty after a VAR review. Substitute Gift Monday extended the lead during first-half stoppage time, though Egypt narrowed the gap with a penalty by Nadine Ghazi, bringing the score to 2-1 at halftime.

Nigeria maintained their dominance in the second half, with Uchenna Kanu restoring their two-goal lead. Subsequent goals from Christy Ucheibe and captain Rasheedat Ajibade further solidified their advantage. Joy Omewa added the final goal in stoppage time, securing a commanding 6-2 win.

This victory ensured Nigeria’s place in the last eight as they continue the pursuit of a record-extending 11th WAFCON title. Next, the Super Falcons will face Cameroon in the quarter-finals, aiming to defend their continental crown.
