The Plateau State Police Command has successfully apprehended two suspected kidnappers and confiscated an AK-47 rifle along with 30 rounds of live ammunition in Kanke Local Government Area, marking another significant achievement in their ongoing crime-fighting efforts.
The suspects, originating from Nyinang Village in the Amper District of Kanke LGA, were caught on August 2, 2026, following a strategic, intelligence-driven operation prompted by a kidnapping report.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Alfred Alabo, the Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Police Command, detailed that the Command received an urgent report of the kidnapping on August 1 at the Kanke Police Division.
Promptly, the Divisional Police Officer dispatched a team of detectives who, in collaboration with other security agencies, aimed to rescue the victims and identify those responsible.
This operation successfully resulted in the arrest of the two suspects and the seizure of an AK-47 rifle with 30 live rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The suspects are currently detained while the Command’s Violent Crimes Response Unit (VCRU) continues its investigation to capture additional syndicate members and retrieve more weapons linked to the crime.
Acting Commissioner of Police for Plateau State, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, praised the public for their vigilance and unwavering support for the Police. He encouraged residents to maintain cooperation by providing timely and credible information that aids security agencies in combating crime.
The police reiterated their appeal for citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activity, emphasizing the importance of “See Something, Say Something” to appropriate authorities.
