The Federal Government has countered assertions made by Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, who claimed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) could be defeated in the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, expressed his belief that the APC would maintain the presidency and achieve success in Kaduna State during the 2027 elections.
Musa made these remarks on Thursday while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, shortly after Obi and Kwankwaso addressed their supporters and voiced concerns regarding the conduct of the forthcoming general elections.
Obi cautioned that Nigerians would resist any attempts to manipulate their votes at polling stations, while Kwankwaso contended that the APC’s dominance in numerous states would not necessarily ensure victory at the federal level.
Kwankwaso reportedly referenced the 2015 presidential election, in which former President Goodluck Jonathan lost despite the Peoples Democratic Party controlling several states at that time.
In response to suggestions that voters in Kaduna might penalize the APC due to the performance of the Tinubu administration, Musa dismissed the notion that the party was experiencing widespread rejection in the North.
“That’s a perception,” the minister stated, adding that individuals would invariably hold differing opinions regarding political developments and government performance.
When directly asked if the APC could lose Kaduna State in 2027, Musa expressed confidence that the ruling party would prevail.
“I cannot say cannot lose. APC will win in Kaduna. That I know,” he asserted.
The minister further clarified that his prediction encompassed all significant elections in the state, including the presidential and governorship races.
“Definitely. Presidential, governorship, and all levels,” Musa added.
Musa, who hails from the northern region of the country, also refuted claims of increasing opposition to President Bola Tinubu and the APC throughout the region.
