The Federal Government has paid the naira equivalent of $100,000 each to members of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) confirmed that the players received the cash component of the Presidential Reward announced after the team secured its fifth consecutive Afrobasket championship.
Team officials were also rewarded with the naira equivalent of $50,000 each.
According to the NSC, the payments were credited to the accounts of the players and officials on September 9, 2026, with all beneficiaries confirming receipt.
The commission said the latest payment completes all components of the reward approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the team’s outstanding performance.
The presidential package included cash payments, three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and national honours for the players and officials.
“With the payment, the entire presidential rewards promised to each member of the team by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR comprising a 3-Bedroom flat in Abuja, national honours of OON and Naira equivalent of $USD 100,000 to players and $USD 50,000 to officials have been fully redeemed and completed,” the NSC said in a statement signed by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi.
D’Tigress made history by winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket title for a record fifth consecutive time, taking their overall championship tally to seven.
The NSC also recalled that the team members received title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja as well as certificates confirming their national honours in February 2026 during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France.
The documents were reportedly signed by President Tinubu.
The latest payment therefore brings the Federal Government’s promised reward package for the continental champions to full completion.
