The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of popular social media influencer and political commentator, Ibrahim Khalil, widely known as Danshagamu.
The police said two suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged killing of the influencer at Gaida Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Danshagamu was well known in Kano for his activities as a social media influencer, video content creator and political commentator. He had built a significant following on platforms including Facebook and TikTok, where he frequently discussed political, religious and community issues.
Before becoming a full-time social media commentator, he reportedly worked as a reporter with a local radio station.
According to the police, the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday, September 8, when suspected hoodlums allegedly gained access to Danshagamu’s residence and attacked him with sharp objects.
The Command said it received a distress call from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group and quickly deployed officers from the Kumbotso Police Division to the area.
The victim was taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital in Kano, where a medical doctor reportedly confirmed him dead on arrival.
Following an intelligence-led operation, officers of the Kumbotso Division, working with tactical units and community stakeholders, arrested two suspects allegedly connected to the incident.
The suspects remain in police custody and are being interrogated, while investigators continue efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals who may have been involved.
The police also said statements were being obtained from relevant persons and forensic procedures were underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the killing and establish the motive behind the attack.
The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, expressed concern over the incident and assured residents that the command would pursue justice.
“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” Bakori said.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has also directed security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and prosecute those responsible for the killing.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described the incident as shocking and unacceptable.
Governor Yusuf appealed to residents to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, while assuring them of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
The police said additional patrols and intelligence-gathering activities had been deployed around Gaida and neighbouring communities.
The investigation remains ongoing, with the Command stating that the suspects would be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
