A member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that he and other party members were harassed, assaulted and intimidated during political activities in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State.
According to the party member, the incident involved personnel of the O’SPAC and some police officers.
He alleged that some members were physically assaulted and injured during the operation.
He also claimed that phones and money were allegedly taken from some of those affected.
Three Party Members Arrested
The ADC member identified three people who were reportedly arrested as Isaiah Thomas, Confidence Amadi and Chikezie Justice.
He further alleged that an Area Commander accused the arrested individuals of being cultists.
However, the allegation was presented by the ADC member and has not been independently established.
The party member also claimed that the three individuals remained in custody because of alleged instructions from the Ikwerre Local Government Area Chairman.
Call for Police Intervention
The ADC member has called for the immediate release of the arrested individuals.
He also appealed to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to intervene in the matter.
According to him, the police should investigate the allegations of assault, intimidation and unlawful detention.
The development comes amid heightened political activities in Rivers State, where political parties are mobilising members and supporters ahead of upcoming elections.
As of the time of this report, the allegations remain claims by the ADC member. The positions of the Rivers State Police Command, O’SPAC and the Ikwerre Local Government authorities were not included in the account provided.
