The 2027 African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu is 90 years old, insisting that he has evidence to support the allegation.
Atiku made the claim during an interview with the BBC published on Friday, saying he would be prepared to present the evidence in court if necessary.
The former vice president also defended his decision to continue contesting for the presidency, citing his opposition to military rule and previous circumstances that prevented him from securing the presidency.
Atiku maintained that he has a constitutional right to contest elections and said he remains ready to serve Nigeria, pointing to his experience, competence and patriotism as qualifications for the presidency.
Atiku Speaks on Tinubu’s Age
While discussing concerns about his own age and fitness for office, Atiku compared himself with President Tinubu and questioned why he should not seek the presidency if he believes he remains healthy and capable.
“You have a President who is 90 years old now and sick and I am healthy and strong. So why won’t I make myself available to serve my country?” Atiku said.
He added: “You went and voted for someone who is 90 years old. I have evidence that President Tinubu is 90 years old and I will present it in court.”
Atiku’s claim about the President’s age has not been independently established in the information provided and remains an allegation by the ADC candidate.
Atiku Promises Action on Insecurity
The ADC presidential candidate also blamed Nigeria’s worsening insecurity on what he described as government irresponsibility, particularly in the areas of defence and policing.
He promised that his administration would take decisive steps to address the security situation, saying he would seek significant improvements within his first year in office if elected in 2027.
The comments come amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Atiku and other opposition figures seeking to build support for an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
