The Edo State Government has taken another step towards improving electricity supply in the state with the issuance of licences for a planned 100-megawatt power project.
The development is part of the state’s efforts to strengthen its electricity infrastructure and provide a more reliable power supply for homes, businesses and industries.
Officials said the project is expected to be completed by December, subject to the progress of construction and other implementation activities.
The planned facility is expected to contribute additional power to Edo’s electricity market and support economic activities across the state.
Reliable electricity remains a major concern for businesses and households in Nigeria, where inadequate power supply has continued to increase operating costs for manufacturers, small businesses and other enterprises.
The Edo project is therefore being viewed as an important investment that could help reduce dependence on alternative sources of electricity, particularly diesel and petrol-powered generators.
Beyond improving electricity availability, the project could also create opportunities for employment and support investment in areas that require dependable power infrastructure.
The state government’s move comes amid broader efforts to reform Nigeria’s electricity sector and encourage subnational governments and private investors to participate more actively in power generation and distribution.
