Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have reportedly questioned the embattled Director-General at a police detention facility as investigations into the alleged fake government agency continue.

Sources familiar with the investigation said the ICPC team visited the detention facility to obtain the suspect’s statement and gather additional evidence relating to allegations of impersonation, fraud, abuse of office, and other offences connected to the case.

The embattled DG was earlier taken into police custody following his arrest over allegations that he falsely presented himself as the head of a federal government agency not recognised by law.

Investigators are said to be examining documents, financial records, official correspondences, and other materials to determine the extent of the alleged activities and whether other individuals were involved.

The ICPC has not officially disclosed the outcome of the interrogation, while the Nigeria Police Force has continued its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the establishment and operations of the purported agency.

Legal experts note that the suspect remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court of law.

The case has attracted nationwide attention, prompting renewed calls for stricter oversight of public institutions and stronger measures to prevent the creation or operation of unauthorised government agencies.

Authorities have assured the public that anyone found to have violated the law during the course of the investigation will be prosecuted in accordance with Nigeria’s legal system.
