A man identified as Hassan has publicly named Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, as the politician he has been accusing of alleged links to banditry.

Hassan disclosed the senator’s name during a recorded interview in which he was repeatedly asked to identify the politician at the centre of his earlier allegations.

He alleged that his investigation into the activities of individuals suspected of involvement in banditry led him to information concerning Senator Shehu Buba Umar.

Hassan also alleged that two individuals identified as Babangida and Adam were connected to the senator and claimed that arrangements had been made for suspected bandits to travel to Abuja for training.

He said one of the individuals, whom he identified as Babangida, was allegedly associated with notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide.

According to Hassan, he had telephone conversations with Babangida and Adam and said recordings of those conversations had been provided to the interviewer.

He claimed that Adam allegedly acknowledged during one of the conversations that two individuals had been brought to Abuja for training.

Hassan further alleged that some of the training involved the use of drones and professional sniping techniques.

He stressed, however, that the allegations should be examined on the basis of evidence and urged Nigerians not to accept his claims without hearing from the people he accused.

The speaker also referred to photographs and videos which he claimed showed individuals associated with bandit groups in connection with Senator Shehu Buba Umar.

He alleged that some of the people mentioned in his account had links to prominent bandit figures, including Dogo Gide and another individual he identified as Kachalla Halejewaji.

Hassan said he had previously attempted to take the matter to court but claimed that he feared for his safety. He also alleged that attempts had been made to harm him because of the information he possessed.

He maintained that his accusations were not motivated by religion, politics or personal hostility, insisting that nobody should be considered above the law.

Hassan also challenged Senator Shehu Buba Umar to provide evidence of any official authorisation that may have permitted the alleged training of individuals in Abuja.

“If he brings the proof” that government authorities officially authorised the training, Hassan said he would apologise.

The interview also touched on Hassan’s alleged relationship with some of the individuals he discussed. He said his previous association with them did not mean he would support criminal activity.

The allegations made in the interview are serious and have not been independently established in the transcript provided. Senator Shehu Buba Umar’s response to the allegations was not included in the material provided.

Any claims linking named individuals to terrorism, banditry, weapons training or other criminal activities should therefore be independently verified by the appropriate security agencies and through the courts.
