The Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (retired), has committed himself to supporting the 2027 campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) after being appointed as Secretary I of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council.
Musa expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the APC leadership for their trust, seeing his appointment as an invitation to heightened service.
In a statement released on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the minister promised the party leadership, stakeholders, and supporters that he would execute his new responsibilities with diligence and focus.
National Security Remains a Priority
Despite accepting the campaign role, Musa emphasized that his main duty as Minister of Defence remains unchanged. He assured that protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and safeguarding citizens’ lives and property will remain his foremost concern, stating national security as “our highest imperative.”
Musa further noted that ongoing military operations, strategic reforms, and collaboration among security agencies would proceed without interruption. He affirmed the Ministry of Defence’s commitment to protecting Nigerians and supporting the President’s vision for a safe and prosperous nation.
Calls for Unity Ahead of 2027
The Defence Minister urged APC members and Nigerians to unite behind the administration as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. He expressed confidence in the APC’s success at the polls while maintaining a focus on governance, national security, and development.
His appointment positions a serving member of President Tinubu’s cabinet in a key role within the ruling party’s campaign structure ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Musa’s dual responsibilities will draw attention to his capability to balance political duties with his constitutional role as Minister of Defence, especially given the ongoing security challenges as the elections near.
