Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has assured residents of Mangu Local Government Area that his administration will do everything within its powers to protect their lives, property and ancestral lands following a deadly attack on the community.
Mutfwang gave the assurance on Thursday during a visit to Bin Mper community in Kombun District of Mangu, where several people were killed and others injured in the attack.
Mutfwang Condemns Attack
The governor described the incident as “barbaric, senseless and unacceptable,” saying the loss of innocent lives was not only an attack on the affected community but also a direct affront to the Plateau State Government.
Addressing residents, particularly women who gathered during his visit, Mutfwang assured them that the government would strengthen security measures and introduce additional strategies to prevent further attacks on vulnerable communities.
“This is not an attack on the community alone; it is an attack on me,” the governor said, while praying for comfort and peace for the affected families.
Arrests Made as Investigation Continues
Mutfwang said security agencies had informed him that some suspects had been arrested in connection with the attack.
He pledged that the government would follow the case to its logical conclusion and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
“The police have said that some persons have been arrested, and we will follow the matter to its logical conclusion,” he said.
Government Reviews Security Measures
The governor said the attack occurred despite ongoing efforts by his administration to strengthen the state’s security architecture.
According to Mutfwang, the state government has been working closely with security agencies, including the new General Officer Commanding 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, to improve the protection of lives and property.
He said the renewed security strategy places particular emphasis on protecting communities considered vulnerable to attacks.
Mutfwang’s visit comes as residents continue to seek stronger security measures and reassurance following the latest violence in Mangu.
The governor reiterated that the Plateau State Government would not abandon affected communities and would continue working with security agencies to restore lasting peace across the state.
