The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun distributing sensitive electoral materials to all 30 local government areas in Osun State as part of the preparations for the governorship election scheduled for August 15, 2026.
Kunle Ajayi, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of the Osun State election, stated on Friday that distribution is currently taking place at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office located in Osogbo, the state capital. He clarified that delays were caused by late arrivals of newly printed ballot papers and other materials from Abuja after recently adding the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the ballot.
Ajayi stressed that INEC has begun distributing materials to guarantee their timely arrival at designated locations prior to the elections.
On Wednesday, the commission included Francis Ajala, the SDP candidate, and his running mate Faseke Oladipo on the ballot for the governorship election. With this addition, the total number of political parties contesting increased to 15.
Consequently, INEC announced that the ballot papers for the election set for Saturday, August 15, 2026, are being reprinted to incorporate this addition, increasing the total number of political parties to 15. The result sheets are also being updated simultaneously to feature the SDP candidate.
