The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that more than 1.9 million permanent voter cards (PVCs) have been collected ahead of the Osun governorship election. In a statement issued on Thursday, Mohammed Haruna, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, noted this number is part of a total 2,339,233 registered voters in the state.
Out of the total, 1,906,390 PVCs have been collected, making up 81.50 percent. The remaining 426,842 PVCs, constituting 18.50 percent, are safely stored at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in accordance with the Commission’s standard procedures.
The statement noted that people with damaged, defaced, or lost PVCs have sought replacements. As a result, 6,101 applicants have successfully downloaded and printed copies of their PVCs. A comprehensive table displaying the number of collected PVCs at each Polling Unit (PU) is now accessible on INEC’s website.
INEC has assured all political parties, civil society organizations, media outlets, and the citizens of Osun State that it is fully prepared to conduct an election on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The election will be free, fair, credible, transparent ,and inclusive.
As election day nears, excitement is building among candidates and voters in Osun State. With just two days remaining until the governorship election, the Nigeria Police are wrapping up their preparations by deploying thousands of officers across all 30 local government areas to guarantee a peaceful and credible voting process.
Based on information from police sources and official statements, at least four officers will be assigned to each of the 3,673 polling units. This count does not include extra support provided by other agencies.
