Brazilian football icon Ronaldinho has unexpectedly resumed his career by signing with Ravenna, a team in Italy’s third division.
The legendary former Barcelona and Brazil player, who retired back in 2015, revealed his comeback on Thursday at the age of 46.
Ronaldinho expressed his intent to aid Ravenna’s success while also chasing his personal goal of scoring a 300th career goal.
‘I’m in Good Shape’
The 2002 FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil and 2005 Ballon d’Or recipient played his last professional game for Fluminense in September 2015.
At his presentation in Ravenna, the ex-attacking midfielder shared his excitement about returning to Italy.
He commented, “I’m thrilled to be here with friends; we have a team capable of achieving significant things.”
He also hinted at possible participation in competitive matches.
Asked about playing, he responded, “Will you see me play? I can’t say; only the coach knows.”
Ronaldinho mentioned that he was feeling fit and hoped to achieve his 300th goal.
“As you can see, I’m in good shape and feeling well… Scoring my 300th goal would be particularly special.”
## Beyond Publicity
Ronaldinho’s return was initially announced during the World Cup in Miami by Ignazio Cipriani, an Italian-American entrepreneur who has owned Ravenna since 2024.
Cipriani emphasized that Ronaldinho’s return was driven by a true passion for the game rather than just publicity for the club.
“He wants to score his final goal,” Cipriani noted, stressing that Ronaldinho’s involvement wasn’t just for show or marketing purposes.
Ronaldinho is also expected to take on a shareholder role with the club.
Ronaldinho’s Impact on Brazilian Football
The Brazilian superstar recorded **33 goals in 97 appearances** for his national team and enjoyed a stellar club career with Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, AC Milan, and Fluminense.
During his time with Barcelona, he won major domestic and European titles and became one of the game’s most influential figures of his era.
Ravenna announced that Ronaldinho would not participate in their Serie C season opener against Reggiana on Monday.
The club aims to secure a promotion to Serie B after finishing third in Group B of Italy’s third tier last season, having not played in Serie B since 2008.
