Presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore has urged an end to what he refers to as the political exploitation of individuals in Northern Nigeria.
Sowore emphasized that politicians must cease viewing the North merely as a source of electoral backing, asserting that the residents of this region are entitled to the same rights and opportunities as those in other areas of the country.
He expressed these views while reflecting on his discussions with Northern leaders in Kaduna.
According to Sowore, the North should not be perceived as a political asset that politicians aim to dominate during elections.
“The North is not a lottery for politicians to win—it is a region populated by human beings,” he stated.
The activist contended that Northern Nigerians should not be compelled to relinquish their dignity or political autonomy in exchange for basic needs or political representation.
He asserted that the inhabitants of the region deserve enhanced security, quality education, job opportunities, healthcare, and access to a higher standard of living.
Sowore also condemned politicians who, in his view, regard the North primarily as a “vote bank” during election periods.
He insisted that the region rightfully belongs to its people and should not be treated as the possession of political entities seeking electoral gain.
His remarks arise amidst ongoing discussions regarding insecurity, poverty, education, employment, and political representation throughout Northern Nigeria.
Sowore called on Nigerians to prioritize the rights and welfare of citizens rather than reducing communities to mere electoral figures.
