Ahead of the 2027 general elections, President Bola Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, with former Zamfara State Governor Senator Abdulaziz Yari appointed as Director-General.
Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma will serve as Secretary of the council as the ruling party begins preparations for Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
The composition of the campaign council was announced in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu, Shettima to Lead Council
President Tinubu will serve as chairman of the campaign council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda will serve as vice chairmen.
According to the statement, Yari’s appointment places him at the centre of the APC’s campaign machinery, while Uzodimma will oversee the council’s secretariat and coordinate its operations.
Bashiru, Bala-Usman Get Roles
The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, was appointed Deputy Secretary, while Hadiza Bala-Usman will serve as Assistant Secretary.
The council will also receive support from a group of senior political advisers with extensive experience in Nigerian politics.
They include former APC National Chairman Chief Bisi Akande, veteran journalist and politician Chief Segun Osoba, former Imo State Governor Senator Rochas Okorocha, former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and Senator Florence Ita Giwa.
Akpabio, Abbas, Buni Named Deputy Directors-General
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have also been appointed Deputy Directors-General.
Akpabio will oversee the council’s activities in the South, while Abbas and Buni will play key leadership roles in coordinating the campaign in the North.
The formation of the council signals the APC’s move to strengthen its political structure ahead of the 2027 presidential election and intensify mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
