President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently intervene on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road and the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti road, following concerns over their deteriorating conditions and the difficulties faced by motorists.

The directive was disclosed on Tuesday by Francis Nwaze, spokesperson to the Minister of Works, David Umahi.

According to Nwaze, Umahi expressed concern over the deplorable state of the roads, noting that motorists had been forced to spend several hours and, in some cases, days trying to navigate the affected routes.

Tinubu Orders Immediate Action

Umahi said President Tinubu had directed the Ministry of Works to take urgent steps to restore movement and ease the difficulties experienced by road users.

“President Tinubu, GCFR, has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to urgently intervene and ensure that necessary corrective actions are taken to restore movement on the affected roads as quickly as possible,” Umahi was quoted as saying.

The minister said machinery had already been put in place to begin implementing the President’s directive.

Minister of State Leads Ekiti-Kogi Intervention

As part of the immediate response, Umahi directed the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, to lead a team of ministry officials to the Ifaki-Kabba-Ado Ekiti corridor.

The team was tasked with assessing the condition of the road and commencing urgent remedial works.

According to the ministry, officials were already on the ground as of 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, to begin the intervention.

The move is expected to provide immediate relief to motorists and communities affected by the poor condition of the strategic road linking parts of Ekiti and Kogi states.

Umahi Heads to Benin for Benin-Agbor-Asaba Road

While the intervention team moved into Ekiti and Kogi states, Umahi travelled to Benin City, Edo State, alongside members of the National Assembly Works Committees to begin a similar intervention on the Benin-Agbor-Asaba road.

The strategic corridor has experienced significant difficulties for motorists, prompting calls for urgent government action.

The Benin meeting is expected to bring together representatives of the Edo and Delta State Governments as well as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The stakeholders are expected to discuss immediate measures to address the condition of the road and restore smoother movement along the important transport corridor.

Government Seeks Immediate Relief for Motorists

The Federal Government’s intervention is aimed at addressing the immediate challenges faced by motorists while longer-term solutions are considered.

The two road corridors are important links for commuters, businesses and the movement of goods, making their condition a major concern for residents and transport operators.

The Ministry of Works said efforts would continue to ensure that the necessary corrective measures are implemented as quickly as possible.
