Nigerian troops have recorded another breakthrough in the fight against kidnapping after successfully ambushing a gang of suspected kidnappers in Kwara State, killing four of the criminals and rescuing an abducted victim during the operation.
According to military sources, the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the movement of the kidnappers within a forested area in the state. Acting on the information, security personnel launched a coordinated ambush, leading to a fierce gun battle with the armed suspects.
The troops reportedly overpowered the kidnappers during the exchange of fire, neutralizing four of them while forcing others to flee into the surrounding forest with varying degrees of injuries. The abducted victim, who had been held captive by the gang, was rescued unharmed and immediately taken to safety.
Security operatives also recovered weapons, ammunition, and other items believed to have been used by the criminal group during the operation. Authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspects, while troops have intensified patrols across the area to prevent further criminal activities.
Military officials described the successful operation as part of sustained efforts by the Armed Forces and other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping syndicates and restore peace in communities affected by violent crime. They reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to maintaining pressure on criminal elements operating across the country.
Residents of the affected communities have been urged to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence capable of preventing criminal attacks. Authorities emphasized that public cooperation remains crucial to the success of ongoing security operations.
The latest success highlights the determination of the Nigerian military to combat kidnapping and other forms of violent crime, particularly in parts of the North Central region where criminal gangs have increasingly targeted commuters and rural communities. Security analysts say intelligence-led operations and closer collaboration between the military, police, and local communities are yielding positive results in the fight against insecurity.
As security operations continue across Kwara State and neighbouring areas, the Armed Forces have assured Nigerians that they will sustain offensive actions against criminal groups until lasting peace and security are restored.
