Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has hinted at plans to form what he described as the “largest rainbow coalition” in support of President Bola Tinubu’s bid for re-election in 2027.
Wike made the disclosure while speaking with journalists in Abuja on Friday, following a visit to his residence by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke the previous day.
The FCT minister said Adeleke was now aligned with the ruling All Progressives Congress and suggested that the opposition would face a difficult task in its attempt to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike Predicts Strong Support for Tinubu
According to Wike, Nigerians should watch closely in the coming weeks as more political developments unfold.
“In the next few weeks, watch what is going to happen. You will see the largest rainbow coalition supporting President Tinubu,” he said.
Wike also described the 2027 election as a potential “walkover”, arguing that opposition parties would struggle to prevent Tinubu from securing another term.
His comments come amid growing political realignments as parties and prominent politicians position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adeleke’s Visit Fuels Political Speculation
The remarks followed Adeleke’s visit to Wike in Abuja on Thursday, shortly after the Osun governor received his Certificate of Return following his re-election.
Adeleke was accompanied by his nephew, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
The meeting has generated political interest, particularly following Adeleke’s reported expression of support for President Tinubu.
Adeleke, who secured another term as governor of Osun State after defeating his main challenger in the August 15 governorship election, remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Opposition Faces Fresh Political Realignment
Wike’s comments come at a time when opposition politicians and parties are attempting to build a broad coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The proposed alliance could bring together politicians and political groups from different parties and ideological backgrounds in support of Tinubu.
However, the exact composition of the coalition and the political figures who may join it have not yet been formally announced.
Wike’s claim that the election could be a “walkover” also remains his political assessment, with opposition parties expected to mount their own campaigns and alliances as the 2027 election approaches.
The political landscape is therefore likely to remain fluid in the coming months as parties, governors and influential political figures make strategic moves ahead of the presidential contest.
