The Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw his presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections and support the NDC.
Kwankwaso made the appeal on Thursday while receiving members of the Fulani Farmers Association at his residence in Abuja.
The former Kano State governor urged Atiku, who is the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to step aside and support the NDC ticket.
He also assured the former vice president that his interests would be protected if the party succeeds in winning the 2027 presidential election.
“Step down for us; if we win, we will take care of you,” Kwankwaso said.
The appeal comes amid ongoing efforts by opposition politicians and political groups to build a strong alliance capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
Atiku remains one of the prominent opposition figures seeking the presidency and has continued to feature prominently in discussions surrounding the opposition’s strategy for the next general election.
Kwankwaso and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi were previously associated with the ADC but reportedly left the party in May amid disagreements and legal challenges within the political platform.
The latest appeal by Kwankwaso further highlights the continuing political realignments and negotiations among opposition figures as preparations for the 2027 presidential contest intensify.
