The Osun State Commissioner for Environment, Mayowa Adejoorin, was released by the Osun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force after being detained for nearly 24 hours. He was taken into custody following an incident in Ilesa on Saturday, where a shooting in the Isokun area resulted in three injuries.
In the wake of the incident during a street rally by the Ilesa West Local Government Area chapter of the All Progressives Congress, three individuals, including 14-year-old Tobi Ilesanmi, were reportedly injured near the Isokun vicinity.
The situation has escalated into a conflict between the APC and the Accord Party, especially after Adejoorin’s arrest as he passed through Ilesa after the disturbances.

According to Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, the shooting involved operatives of the Amotekun Corps traveling in a vehicle with an official state number plate. He confirmed that three people suffered injuries and were hospitalized. During the APC rally, Amotekun personnel reportedly emerged from a vehicle marked OSHAO4 and fired shots, causing chaos.
As people fled for safety, some rally participants pursued the Amotekun personnel. One person attempted to use a knife for self-defense and managed to escape.
The police later responded to the reported case with operatives from the Intelligence Response Team who intercepted Adejoorin’s vehicle, a white Lexus 350, due to its proximity to the scene. Upon stopping the vehicle, they discovered an Amotekun operative inside alongside Commissioner Adejoorin. Both the vehicle and its occupants were brought to police headquarters for questioning.
