The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The President-General of the conference, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas, announced the decision on Wednesday during the organisation’s 2026 synod in a video that has since attracted widespread attention online.
Kawas said the endorsement followed the bishops’ assessment of the Tinubu administration and its approach to appointments and governance.
According to him, the President had not demonstrated nepotism in his appointments despite contesting the 2023 presidential election on a Muslim-Muslim ticket with Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The archbishop also argued that the administration had supported the emergence of Christian governors in several states.
“He did not only appoint at the national level; he also supported the emergence of Christian governors to be the majority in Nigeria. He has stood with Christianity alongside his wife,” Kawas said.
The bishop further commended the ruling All Progressives Congress for choosing what he described as a born-again Christian and preacher of the gospel as its national leader.
“Also, for the first time, the ruling party appointed a born-again Christian and preacher of the gospel to be the national leader of the party,” he added.
Kawas said the conference would continue to support Tinubu through prayers and advocacy, particularly for government programmes that the group believes can contribute to national development.
The endorsement adds the bishops’ conference to the growing number of groups and political stakeholders expressing positions on the 2027 presidential contest.
