The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has challenged anyone claiming he collected money from Nigerians in the United States to provide evidence.
Obi made the statement during his ongoing visit to the US as he continues activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The former Anambra State governor also rejected claims that his trip was aimed at raising campaign funds from Nigerians living abroad.
Obi Makes Campaign Pledge
Obi said he would end his 2027 presidential campaign if anyone could prove that he received even one dollar from a Nigerian in America.
“If anyone can show me one person in America who gave me even one dollar, I will end my 2027 campaign,” Obi said.
He maintained that he was financing his activities with his personal resources.
‘I Am Using My Own Resources’
Responding to speculation surrounding his US trip, Obi said he was not travelling around the world to solicit money for his presidential campaign.
He said he was personally paying his expenses while continuing to engage with Nigerians and pursue what he described as the right course for the country.
“I am using my own resources and paying all my bills,” he said.
Obi said his international engagements should not be interpreted as evidence that he was seeking financial contributions from Nigerians in the diaspora.
2027 Campaign
The statement comes as political activities continue to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election.
Obi, who was the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, is now running under the NDC banner, according to the information provided in the report.
