The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The anti-graft agency announced the development in a wanted notice issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, and signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

According to the notice, Maina, 61, is an indigene of Biu in Borno State.

The EFCC appealed to anyone with useful information about his whereabouts to contact any of its offices across the country, the nearest police station or other security agencies.

EFCC Gives Reason for Wanted Notice

The commission specifically listed Maina as wanted in connection with an alleged case of receiving stolen properties.

The latest declaration comes amid Maina’s continuing legal troubles, years after he was prosecuted and convicted in a separate money-laundering case involving pension funds.

The EFCC’s latest allegation remains subject to the legal process.

Maina’s Previous Conviction

Maina was prosecuted by the EFCC in a major pension-related money-laundering case.

He was arraigned in 2019 and later jumped bail during the proceedings. He was subsequently arrested in Niger Republic and returned to Nigeria in December 2020 to face trial.

In November 2021, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him on multiple counts involving money laundering and related offences.

The court imposed prison terms on Maina and also ordered the recovery of funds and assets linked to the case. The Court of Appeal later upheld his conviction in 2023.

Another Legal Battle

Maina has also faced a separate criminal proceeding involving allegations concerning the receipt of funds.

According to reports, that case involves an alleged N738.6 million in stolen funds and has continued before an FCT High Court. Proceedings have experienced delays, including changes in Maina’s legal representation.

The latest EFCC wanted notice therefore adds another development to the former pension task team chairman’s long-running legal history.
