Convicted Murderer Allegedly Runs TikTok Live, Businesses From Nigerian Prison, Sparks Calls for Investigation

A convicted murderer is alleged to have been hosting TikTok Live sessions and operating business activities from inside a Nigerian correctional facility, raising serious concerns about security, oversight and prison administration.

The allegations have sparked widespread public outrage, with legal experts, civil society organisations and concerned Nigerians calling for an immediate investigation into how an inmate could allegedly gain access to mobile devices and the internet while serving a prison sentence.

If confirmed, the incident would expose major lapses in prison security and raise fresh questions about the enforcement of regulations governing Nigeria’s correctional centres.

Critics argue that correctional facilities are designed to restrict unauthorised communication and prevent inmates from engaging in activities that undermine the justice system. The alleged ability of a convicted prisoner to broadcast live on social media and conduct business operations from custody has therefore intensified demands for accountability.

Stakeholders are urging the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) and other relevant authorities to launch a transparent investigation, identify any officials who may have aided the alleged misconduct, and strengthen security measures to prevent similar incidents.

They also called for stricter monitoring of correctional facilities, tighter control of contraband, and the deployment of technology capable of detecting and blocking unauthorised communications within prison environments.

As of the time of filing this report, the allegations remain subject to official verification, while Nigerians await a response from the Nigerian Correctional Service on the matter.
