The Defence Minister, General Christopher Musa (retired), has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a significant salary increase of 30 to 80 percent for the Armed Forces personnel. This move is seen as pivotal in enhancing troop welfare and bolstering national security efforts.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, the minister expressed gratitude to the President for what he termed a landmark salary revision for military personnel.
Musa highlighted that the salary hike reflects the Federal Government’s dedication to honoring the sacrifices made by officers and soldiers throughout the nation.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has once again shown strong leadership and compassion for those who risk their lives daily to maintain the peace and territorial integrity of Nigeria, Musa remarked.
He pointed out that the revised salary structure raises the Armed Forces’ annual personnel budget from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion. This increase underscores the administration’s focus on military personnel welfare.
By elevating the annual personnel cost to ₦924 billion, the President has taken decisive action, demonstrating that troop welfare is a top priority, stated Musa.
Security Operations Enhancement
Musa is confident that the improved pay will alleviate financial stress for service members while boosting morale and operational efficiency. He explained that better welfare directly supports military campaigns against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, oil theft, and other security challenges nationwide.
This reduction in financial pressure for our officers and soldiers will positively impact every operation—from those countering insurgency in the North-East to those addressing banditry, oil theft, and kidnapping in other regions, he added.
The minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to empowering the Armed Forces through enhanced welfare, advanced equipment, and policies designed to strengthen national security and safeguard Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
