American jazz singer and two-time Grammy Award winner, Cassandra Wilson, has died at the age of 70.
Wilson passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi.
Her death was confirmed by her management in a statement issued by her manager, Robert Torre.
According to Torre, the celebrated singer died peacefully at home in the presence of family members, close friends and her manager.
He said Wilson “transitioned peacefully at home, surrounded by family, close friends, and her manager.”
The management did not reveal the cause of death and appealed to the public to respect the privacy of the singer’s family and loved ones during the period of mourning.
Wilson was widely recognised as one of the distinctive voices in American jazz, with a career that earned her international acclaim and multiple honours.
She won the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance in 1997 and later received the Grammy for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2009.
