The Nigerian Air Force has assured Nigerians that it will maintain professionalism and impartiality while supporting security operations during the 2027 general elections.
The commitment was made by the Air Officer Commanding, Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Abdul Suleh, during a security training summit held in Lagos on August 31.
The programme was organised by the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 in partnership with the Institute for Police and Security Policy Research.
Suleh told security personnel that their conduct would be critical to maintaining public confidence in the electoral process. He stressed that officers must perform their duties within the law and remain neutral while protecting citizens and maintaining public order.
According to him, security agencies have an important responsibility to create an environment where Nigerians can exercise their democratic rights without fear or intimidation.
He also called for closer collaboration between the various security agencies, noting that effective coordination would be necessary to identify and address threats capable of disrupting the elections.
The Air Force commander reaffirmed that the Armed Forces remained prepared to assist civil authorities when required and in line with constitutional provisions.
He further emphasised the importance of respecting fundamental human rights during security operations, particularly in an electoral environment where tensions can rise.
Suleh urged commanders and other participants at the training to apply the knowledge gained from the programme to their duties ahead of the 2027 elections.
He expressed confidence that professionalism, cooperation and adherence to the law would contribute to a peaceful and credible electoral process.
As preparations for the 2027 elections continue, security agencies are expected to play a key role in protecting voters, electoral officials and critical infrastructure while maintaining neutrality throughout the exercise.
