Nigeria’s exports have increased by 25 per cent over the past two years, according to the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Abubakar Dantsoho.
Dantsoho disclosed the figure while speaking at an event in London, where he attributed the reported growth to policy changes introduced under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
He said the increase was not confined to a single industry, with several sectors recording improved export activity during the period.
Port Reforms Linked to Export Growth
The NPA chief said improvements in port operations had also contributed to higher cargo-handling volumes.
He explained that the authority had established about four collaborative arrangements involving terminal operators, the Nigeria Customs Service and other relevant government agencies to improve coordination and efficiency.
According to Dantsoho, the partnerships are intended to facilitate smoother cargo processing and strengthen cooperation among stakeholders operating at the nation’s ports.
NPA Introduces Simplified Processes
Dantsoho also highlighted the introduction of a simplified window system as part of efforts to streamline port operations.
The initiative is aimed at improving operational processes and supporting more efficient movement of goods through Nigerian ports.
Despite the reported export growth and ongoing reforms, challenges remain across the country’s port system. Further details on the sectors contributing to the 25 per cent increase and the data period used to calculate the figure were not provided in the report.
