President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled his $100,000 reward promise to Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The National Sports Commission (NSC) said the players have begun receiving payments totalling approximately ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the President’s promised reward.
The Super Falcons secured a record-extending 10th continental title after defeating hosts Morocco in the final in July 2025.
Falcons Come Back to Claim African Title
Nigeria staged an impressive comeback after falling two goals behind, scoring three times in the second half to defeat Morocco and reclaim the African crown.
The victory further strengthened the Super Falcons’ position as the most successful team in the history of the women’s continental competition.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade thanked Tinubu for honouring his commitment, describing the payment as recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.
Tinubu Also Rewarded D’Tigress
The President had previously promised and delivered $100,000 rewards to members of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket.
D’Tigress won their fifth consecutive continental title, extending Nigeria’s dominance in the women’s basketball competition.
The National Sports Commission commended the President for supporting Nigerian athletes and recognising sporting achievements through financial rewards.
The Commission said such commitments could encourage athletes and strengthen confidence in sports administration while promoting national pride.
