Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and several prominent stakeholders linked to the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State have reportedly met in Spain as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The strategic meeting reportedly brought together key figures from Rivers politics, including the Executive Director, Projects and Infrastructural Development of the South South Development Commission, Chief Marcus Nle Ejii; Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Senator Mao Ohabunwa; and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the state, Kingsley Ogundu Chinda.
However, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, was reportedly absent from the meeting despite his recent identification with the coalition.
The exact agenda of the meeting was not made public, but its timing has fuelled speculation that discussions may have focused on political strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wike had recently publicly endorsed Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, as his preferred candidate to succeed Governor Fubara.
The reported meeting comes as political parties and their candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), campaigns for the February 6, 2027 governorship election in Rivers State officially commenced on Tuesday, September 8.
The development is expected to further heighten political activities in the state as major stakeholders position themselves ahead of the election.
