Tinubu meets state governors

According to the statement, Tinubu met with the governors of Nigeria’s 36 states on August 27.

The meeting focused on ways to reduce the cost of transportation across the country.

Tinubu said the government had agreed on a clear target.

He said more Nigerians should begin to notice measurable reductions in transport costs from October 1.

CNG programme moves forward

The President said an implementation committee had been created under the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.

The committee is chaired by Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Tinubu said the committee is already working with state governments and other key stakeholders.

The work also involves PI-CNG and electric vehicle initiatives.

The groups are identifying major transport routes that require intervention.

They are also working out the arrangements needed to introduce the programme.

Global energy crisis increases urgency

Tinubu said the need to move quickly has become more important because of the current global energy crisis.

The government plans to use alternative energy sources to support more affordable transportation.

Compressed natural gas and electric vehicles are among the options being considered under the programme.

The initiative is expected to focus on selected transport corridors where government intervention can help reduce costs for commuters.

What Nigerians should expect

The October 1 target is aimed at producing measurable savings for commuters.

However, the actual impact may vary from one state and transport route to another.

This will depend on the corridors selected and the interventions introduced by the government and participating stakeholders.

For now, the Federal Government says it is working towards making public transportation more affordable for Nigerians from October.
