Petrol prices have increased at MRS and other filling stations in Abuja and surrounding areas, with some retailers raising their pump prices over the weekend.
A market survey cited by Obasanjonews24 on Sunday showed that MRS filling stations increased the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly called petrol, from N1,370 to N1,409 per litre.
The adjustment represents an increase of N39 per litre. The new price was reportedly introduced at MRS outlets in Kubwa, Katampe, Gwarimpa and other parts of Abuja.
Other fuel retailers also adjusted their prices. Ranoil and AA Rano reportedly raised their pump prices by N10 per litre, from N1,400 to N1,410.
FG Proposes N1,350 Petrol Price at NNPCL Stations
The latest price increases come amid a proposed petrol discount by the Federal Government.
Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele reportedly proposed reducing the price of petrol to N1,350 per litre at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) filling stations.
Fuel marketers and retailers have called on the government to extend the proposed discount to other filling stations, arguing for broader access to any price relief initiative.
However, the extent of the proposed discount and whether it will be applied beyond NNPCL outlets remain important details for consumers to watch.
Crude Oil Prices in Focus
The pump-price adjustments come after petrol prices reportedly declined during the previous week.
Obasanjonews24 also reported that Brent crude was trading at about $104 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) stood at approximately $91 per barrel.
Changes in international crude oil prices, supply costs and domestic pricing conditions can influence petrol prices, although the precise reasons for the latest increases were not detailed in the report.
Motorists are advised to check prices at nearby filling stations before purchasing fuel, as pump prices may vary by location and retailer.
