Ethiopia’s opposition has accused the federal government of pursuing policies that could reignite tensions in the northern Tigray region, warning that recent developments risk undermining fragile peace efforts and pushing the country toward another round of conflict.

Opposition leaders alleged that the government’s handling of political and security issues in Tigray has heightened uncertainty, urging authorities to prioritize dialogue, reconciliation, and the full implementation of existing peace agreements.

The accusations come amid lingering tensions following the devastating conflict that ravaged northern Ethiopia, leaving thousands dead, displacing millions, and causing widespread humanitarian challenges.

Government officials have consistently maintained their commitment to preserving national unity, implementing peace agreements, and restoring stability in areas affected by the conflict. Authorities have also emphasized ongoing efforts to rebuild infrastructure, facilitate humanitarian assistance, and support the return of displaced communities.

Political analysts warn that renewed political disagreements or security incidents could jeopardize the gains made since the cessation of hostilities agreement, stressing the need for sustained dialogue among all stakeholders.

International partners, including regional and global organizations, have repeatedly called on all parties to exercise restraint, resolve disputes peacefully, and safeguard the progress achieved through diplomatic negotiations.

Observers say maintaining peace in Tigray remains critical not only for Ethiopia’s internal stability but also for the broader security and economic development of the Horn of Africa.

As political tensions continue to evolve, many Ethiopians and members of the international community are urging both the government and opposition groups to prioritize constructive engagement and avoid actions that could lead to renewed violence.
