President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as efforts intensified to resolve the controversy surrounding the party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) list.

The meeting was the latest in a series of engagements between the President, APC governors and other senior party leaders aimed at reviewing and possibly reworking the controversial campaign council list released by the ruling party on Saturday, August 23, 2026.

The APC governors arrived at the President’s office shortly before 4:00 p.m. after attending a separate meeting of the National Economic Council chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The consultations began on Wednesday as party leaders sought to address concerns raised following the publication of the PCC list.

The list generated significant controversy, particularly over the inclusion of some party chieftains who are currently facing corruption-related charges.

There were also allegations within the party that some important stakeholders and sections of the APC were not adequately consulted during the preparation of the list.

Multiple party sources said discussions held at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday lasted from about 4:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. but ended without a final resolution.

The consultations therefore continued on Thursday following the regular meeting of the National Economic Council.

Although the full extent of the proposed changes could not immediately be confirmed, sources close to APC governors and senior party leaders said the campaign council list had been reviewed.

One source claimed that the original list had been removed from the APC’s official X account and that a revised version would be published after President Tinubu gives final approval to the outcome of the consultations.

“The list is part of the main agenda of the meeting. You can notice that the other controversial list has been deleted from the Twitter handle of the party,” the source said.

Another senior party chieftain criticised the process through which the initial list was produced, claiming that key party stakeholders were not sufficiently involved.

“Can you believe that the party was not carried along in the formation of the list? The President’s Special Adviser on Political Matters and a few persons in the Presidency came up with the list,” the chieftain alleged.

The party leader said the backlash generated by the list had prompted the President to intervene directly, expressing confidence that changes would emerge from the ongoing consultations.

“The President is handling the matter, and it is believed that some changes will be made after the two-day meeting,” the source added.

The development comes as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections amid growing political activity within the ruling party.
