The Nigerian stock market ended lower on Tuesday, undoing the gains from the previous session as investors experienced a loss totaling ₦599 billion in market value.

Market capitalization decreased by 0.38 percent, from ₦158.614 trillion at the opening of trading to ₦158.015 trillion by the close.

The All-Share Index (ASI) also suffered a decline, dropping 927.70 points—equivalent to 0.38 percent—ending at 244,802.83, compared to 245,730.53 on the prior day.

As a result of this downturn, the market’s Year-to-Date (YTD) return reduced to 57.32 percent.

Investor sentiment was notably weak throughout the session, with negative market breadth as 40 stocks saw losses while only 13 posted gains.

Among the significant losers were Multiverse Mining and LivingTrust Mortgage Bank, which each fell by 10 percent, closing at ₦22.95 and ₦3.42 per share, respectively.

On the positive side, AVA Capital led the gainers after rising by 9.94 percent to close at ₦9.95 per share. It was followed by Nigeria Real Estate Investment Trust (N-REIT), which increased by 9.71 percent to reach ₦113 per share.

Despite the decline in market value, trading activity saw a substantial boost. The total trading volume rose by 69.25 percent to 1.56 billion shares valued at ₦28.73 billion, spanning 54,160 deals.

Japaul Gold topped the volume chart with 904.42 million shares, making up 57.89 percent of the day’s total traded volume.

Meanwhile, MTN Nigeria recorded the highest value of transactions, amounting to ₦3.25 billion, or 11.31 percent of the total market turnover.
